Karoon Gas

Karoon Gas’ core focus and strategy was to identify, explore and develop acreage that was highly prospective for oil and gas. Karoon’s objective for the website was to deliver a compelling web presence that reflected what they do in a more professional and corporate manner.

The Challenges

Karoon Gas had a major problem that needed to be resolved quickly and efficiently. One of the core problems Karoon Gas faced for a number of years was their online document management system that their key investors could access and key staff could manage.

Staff at Karoon Gas manually needed to learn HTML skills to maintain their website, which led to an inconsistent look and feel, was time consuming and in some cases not meeting ASX regulations.

Key staff members expressed frustration at how basic functionally would take days to update, access and manage the site. There was no clear management structure for managing resources and unmanaged workflow. At times files would be uploaded to the wrong directories and got lost in the process.

The Requirements

Karoon Gas approached Protogen Technologies with a vision and requirements to develop a new website built on a new content managed system. Their vision was to rebuild their entire online presence from the ground up.

The first stage Protogen Technologies undertook was to step through our CMS questionnaire with the client, breaking down the key features (must have) from the "would-like" features and assign a team to each module of the project. To achieve the end goal, Protogen Technologies sat down with key staff members to fill out a detailed requirements specification document.

Once the interviewing was completed Protogen Technologies began the first draft of the wire framing layouts taken from the feedback and collated requirements from the interviews. The Protogen Technologies design department team mocked up two UI wire framing versions as a base layout of the user interface workflow, and then began on filling the wire frames with images and content from the existing Karoon website as the basis for the final version..

The Solution

After Karoon Gas decided on which layout they preferred, Protogen Technologies then prepared the CMS deployment in our Tier 1 data centre in parallel with the CMS development and testing environments.

The team also developed specific components (such as the ASX integration) and also transferred the initial content into the system to accelerate the go live. Once the team had been provided training manuals and had gone through instructor led training, they were provided access to the development environment and then handover to production was performed. During this period the company had seen their share price grow from approximately $2/share to $11.99/share.
